Following the detainment of an outspoken anti-government activist, Ratna Sarumpaet, for spreading lies, the police has been collecting information pertaining to the case. Ratna’s testimony will reportedly become the focus of the police in investigating the bizarre hoax case. Based on Ratna’s information, the police will ask further confirmations from a number of figures, including the National Mandate Party (PAN) founder and chief patron Amien Rais. According to PAN secretary-general Eddy Soeparno, Amien will cooperate and obey the police’ summon on Oct. 9.

Previously, a picture of Ratna’s heavily bruised face went viral. The activist and also former member of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto’s campaign team then made allegations of being assaulted by three unknown assailants. Ratna was arrested by the police on Oct. 5 after she admitted that she had never been assaulted and that the bruises on her face were the result of a liposuction procedure.

Indonesia is financially healthy

Bisnis Indonesia, headline

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) managing director Christine Lagarde objected a statement saying that Indonesia needed IMF loan since according to her, the country’s economy had been well managed despite two continuous natural disasters in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and Central Sulawesi. Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati supported Lagarde’s statement by saying that IMF loan was only for countries with balance of payments crisis. Sri Mulyani lambasted the pessimistic statement and said that development and adjustment strategies to bolster Indonesia’s economic resiliency and flexibility were more important than worrying about Indonesian debt level as the US Treasury yield had reached 3.4 percent.

Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo said there were four agendas related to global economic recovery that Indonesia would present in the meeting, namely economy and fiscal policy harmonization between countries, strengthening and expanding Infrastructure financing, digital economy and Syariah economy.
